Outside my Creative Comfort Zone
This change has impacted my work, but, it has helped me take a few steps outside of my comfort zone – always a good thing for an artist! It helped me decide to work a little differently and present the new work at the February Fine Art and Craft Sale at Olbrich Botanical Gardens as well as participate in an exhibition, Creative Playground, sponsored by Wisconsin Craft. I received lots of great feedback and I’m excited to incorporate this mixed fiber collage into my work.
“I’m still staying true to my intent to use my botanical dyes…”
… and now incorporating hand-made paper, hand-painted threads, beads, and more. It is truly mixed fiber collage and now I also get to play with framing my pieces as art, not just functional work. It’s triggered some more new ideas to work on.
New work, new direction—on view this May
I’m excited to share a new collection of work from A Botanical Dyery, featuring my latest explorations in mixed fiber collage—blending botanical dyes with hand-made paper, hand-painted threads, beads, and more. These new pieces will be on display during the event I’m proud to be sponsoring on May 2nd and 3rd at the Wyoming Valley School Cultural Arts Center, a stunning Frank Lloyd Wright-designed space. I’ll be filling this incredible venue with some of my favorite artisans—makers, bakers, growers, and creatives—for a weekend full of art, community, and inspiration.
