Shibori Class

This is a flexible, mentored studio intensive designed for artists who want to deeply explore shibori and indigo through guided practice, sampling, and personalized scheduling.

This is a mentored, subscription-based studio intensive focused on deep exploration of shibori patterning and indigo dyeing. Rather than a fixed weekly class, this experience is designed to work with your schedule while offering sustained guidance, hands-on practice, and time to develop a personal body of work. Students will learn all four major shibori categories—using stitching, folding, binding, and resist techniques—while creating a library of samples that can inform future projects.

The class begins with a required introductory session, where we review samples, discuss techniques, set individual goals, and plan your learning path. From there, each participant completes six three-hour studio sessions, scheduled collaboratively to fit both your availability and mine. Two of these sessions are dedicated indigo dye days, allowing focused time at the vat. Small groups are welcome, class sizes remain limited, and the emphasis is on process, experimentation, and mastery rather than rushing toward a single finished piece.

How This Class Is Different

This is not a one-day workshop and not a traditional weekly class. It’s a guided studio practice designed for artists who want time, flexibility, and mentorship to truly understand shibori and indigo. Think of it as a master-class–style experience, without the pressure of performance or critique—just thoughtful instruction, experimentation, and growth.
